In order for a horse to be eligible to race under Rules or in Point-to-Points they must be registered with a unique name, which will remain with them for life. This is to distinguish each horse from others in a race and allows bloodlines and pedigrees to be more easily traced. A horse will also need to be registered with a unique name if it is to be used for breeding purposes.

There are a number of rules surrounding the naming of racehorses which must be adhered to in order to make a successful naming application for your horse.

When a name is shown as ‘available’ it is not, at the moment, registered to another horse or protected by virtue of a previous animal’s performances. All names shown as ‘available’ are subject to further checks prior to registration. Please contact the Weatherbys Naming Team should you wish to go through the registration process [email protected].
